Blue Demons Drop Second Straight Match
SAN ANTONIO, Texas The DePaul men’s tennis team posted multiple come-from-behind wins in singles play, but came up short against Texas-San Antonio, 4-3. The Blue Demons now drop to 13-6 overall while the Roadrunners improve to 7-9. Alasdair Graetz and Jose Moncada defeated Max Stratmann and Pedro Sanotelli in the No. 2 doubles match, earning their team-best 15th victory as a pair. However, UTSA won the doubles point after taking the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. DePaul fell behind to an 0-2 deficit after Moncada bowed out to Andre Moreira, 6-1, 6-1, but Graetz pulled the team back within one after his 7-5, 6-2 triumph over Pedro Zanotelli. After dropping the first set, 6-2, Juan Munoz fought back against Jorge Delgado to force the second set into a tiebreaker. After going point-for-point, Munoz lost the second set 7-6 after dropping the tiebreaker 8-6. In the No. 1 singles match, Austin Doerner dropped his first set against Rodrigo Morgado, 4-6. Realizing he was in a must-win situation with the team down 3-1, he fought back to win the second and third sets to win the match, bringing the Blue Demons back within a point once more. Bartosz Jozwiak tied everything up with his three-set victory over Daniel Moreiras. In the deciding match, Ben Hartman forced a third set against Max Stratmann, after winning the second set in a tiebreaker. The duo continued to exchange games, and eventually went to a tiebreaker in the third set once again. After a long and hard-fought battle Stratmann emerged with the narrow win, giving the Roadrunners the fourth and clinching point. The Blue Demons return tomorrow for one final match at UTSA against Louisiana-Lafayette. Match time is scheduled for 10 a.m. (CST) UTSA 4, DePaul 3 Doubles competition:
