Sun Belt Shootout Tournament Draw
CHICAGO – The DePaul men’s tennis team hits the road for the annual Sun Belt Shootout in Murfreesboro, TN. The two-day tournament brings together eight schools for the two-day tournament March 31-April 1.
Tabbed as the number five seed in the tournament, the Blue Demons will face the fourth seed in Florida Atlantic on Saturday at Noon. The winner will play top-seeded South Alabama or eighth-seeded Southern Illinois at 6 p.m. Both Saturday matches will be played at the Old Fort Courts. DePaul’s first match against Florida Atlantic will begin with doubles, while its semifinals match will start with singles and only play doubles if the match has not been decided.
In the bottom half of the bracket is host and third seed Middle Tennessee State, sixth-seed Austin Peay, number two seed Georgia State and seventh seed Troy. The Championship match is scheduled for Sunday at Noon at the Middle Tennessee State Courts. The third/fourth place dual is slated for 8:30 a.m. also at the MT Courts.
DePaul (10-10) enters the weekend looking to snap its three-match losing streak while it has dropped five of its last six matches. While DePaul’s month of March has not gone as planned the Blue Demons have played some of the nation’s elite teams – playing three ranked teams while five matches have either been on the road or played on a neutral court.
DePaul is led by it George Chanturia and Filip Dzanko. Dzanko leads the Blue Demons with a 26-7 singles record and boasts a 12-2 mark in the top singles position. Chanturia has also eclipsed the 20-win mark and is 21-11 on the season.
Florida Atlantic (11-7) has dropped its last two matches and is led by Taylor Albrecht. The junior boasts a 20-5 record and has won his last 10 singles matches. Albrecht is 15-1 in the top singles position.
Following the Sunbelt Shootout, the Blue Demons head to Notre Dame for an April 4 BIG EAST Conference dual. DePaul closes out the regular season by hosting Marquette on April 14 at Lakeshore Sport and Fitness.
