Men's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season, Hosts Marquette on Saturday

CHICAGO – The DePaul men’s tennis team closes out the 2012 regular season by hosting BIG EAST Conference rival Marquette on Saturday at Lakeshore Sport and Fitness.  The 5 p.m. match will serve as the final home match for graduating student-athletes -- Matija Palinic, George Chanturia and Sven Kasper.

DePaul (11-13) has won its last six series meetings with Marquette.  Last season, DePaul posted a pair of victories over its rival from the north including one to secure a fifth place at the BIG EAST Championship.   

Heading into their final home match of their careers, the Blue Demons have compiled a 28-4 record on their home courts including a trio of ranked victories at the corner of Lakewood and Fullerton since 2008.

Palinic joined the Blue Demons in January of 2009 and heads into the weekend with 58 singles and 38 doubles victories.   The senior has enjoyed a pair of 19-win, singles seasons and won the Purdue Fall Invitational B Doubles flight with Chanturia in 2010.

Both Kasper and Chanturia joined the Blue Demons in 2010 after transferring from previous institutions.   The duo has played in the top three singles positions and has combined for 77 wins.  

Chanturia boasts a 46-24 record and enters the weekend with a 23-12 singles record this season.  The senior has also tallied 32 doubles victories.

Kasper has posted 31 singles victories while he leads the current team with 41 doubles victories in two seasons.

Following this Saturday’s dual with the Golden Eagles the Blue Demons will prepare for the BIG EAST Championship which will be played at the USF Varsity Courts, April 19-22.
