DePaul Men's Tennis Enters BIG EAST Championships as the No. 5 Seed
CHICAGO The DePaul men’s tennis team gear up for the 2009 BIG EAST Conference Championships with one last dual on Wed., April 15 against Florida Gulf Coast. The Blue Demons enter the match with a 14-9 record, while Eagles currently sit at 5-14. Leading the way for the DePaul is No. 1 singles player Austin Doerner. Most recently, he has contributed nine-straight victories in the top match, in addition to winning 14 of the last 17 No. 1 doubles matches. He and partner Ben Hartman have been holding down top-match responsibilities all season long, and have posted a 15-4 record. Jose Moncada has also been consistent for the Blue Demons, tallying a 2-0 singles record over the weekend. He has contributed a 14-4 record in the No. 2 singles match, and is a team-high 24-9 overall. Bartosz Jozwiak eclipsed the 20-singles match win mark, having earned his 21st victory of the season on Sunday against Georgia State. Florida Gulf Coast is coming off a 7-0 loss from Atlantic Sun Conference rival Campbell, and finished league play with a 1-9 record. Thibaud Aime is the top player for the Eagles, posting a team-high six wins. On Friday, DePaul enters the BIG EAST Championships as the No. 5 seed, and is slated to play No. 4 Marquette. Match time is scheduled for 11 a.m. (CST) on the Varsity Courts of USF. The team could potentially face top-seed Louisville in the second round.
