Men's Tennis Falls in C-USA Championship Opener
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- East Carolina recorded the third sweep of the opening day of the annual Conference USA Men’s Tennis Championships with a 4-0 win over DePaul on Thursday.
The Pirates dominated early, claiming the doubles point. The team of Paulo Baumer and Nick Rose recorded an 8-3 performance in No. 2 doubles, and Felipe Fonseca with Mark Gellard claimed an 8-4 win in the third flight.
In singles action, Baumer defeated George Wang of DePaul, 6-2, 6-0. Fonseca topped Will Wang in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) in the No. 4 slot, while Rose beat Michael Fessler in two sets as well (6-1, 6-0) in No. 6 singles.
