No. 61 DePaul Plays at Marquette

CHICAGO – The No. 61 DePaul men’s tennis team makes the short drive to Milwaukee for a BIG EAST Conference dual at rival Marquette on Saturday. Live scoring is available for the 1 p.m. match.
DePaul (14-8, 0-1 BIG EAST) moved up to No. 61 in this week’s Campbell’s/ITA Team poll. The Blue Demons entered the poll on Feb. 8 at No. 66 and were ranked as high as No. 47 in the March 8 poll. Playing one of its more difficult schedules in recent history, DePaul has faced seven ranked teams and is 2-5 in those competitions.
The Blue Demons are led by Bartosz Jozwiak and George Chanturia, who have both reached the 20–win plateau in singles action. Jozwiak has won his last three matches and is 14-6 in duals with an impressive 7-4 mark in the number four position.
The Blue Demons and Marquette square off for the tenth time since the 2004. DePaul holds a 7-2 series advantage and has won the last four duals. In matches played in Milwaukee, the Blue Demons hold a slight 2-1 advantage.
Last season, the Blue Demons and Golden Eagles two matches’ were two of the most exciting of the season. Mathias Hambach clinched DePaul’s 4-3 win with a three-set thriller over Otavio Perim in the fourth position to close out the regular season. In the conference championship, DePaul’s 4-3 win over Marquette pushed the Blue Demons into the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship for the second straight season.
Marquette (13-9, 0-1 BIG EAST) is 8-1 on its home courts and has won two of its three matches in the month of April. Dan Mamalat leads the Golden Eagles with a 21-16 singles mark and is 14-8 in duals this season. In doubles action, Perim and Thibault Troude have won their last four matches and are 13-9 in duals.
DePaul closes out its regular season at Chicago State on April 23. The dual was a late addition to the schedule and will be played at 11 a.m. on the Chicago State campus. DePaul and the Cougars have played three times since 2004 with the Blue Demons winning all three duals.
