Memphis tops the Blue Demons 4-0.
MILWAUKEE — Memphis, the fifth seed in the Conference USA Men’s Tennis Championship, posted an opening round win over DePaul, 4-0, at Helfaer Tennis Stadium on Wednesday.
After jumping to a quick win in the doubles’ point, the Tigers (14-8) picked up straight set wins at the bottom three singles spots. Alex Bucewicz beat Will Wang at the no. 4 spot, 6-1, 6-2. Brendan Malarkey, a winner with Alex Jago at no. 3 doubles, defeated Eric Huffman 6-2, 6-4.
Jago claimed a win over Eric Huffman 6-2, 6-4 to secure the match.
Memphis advances to the quarterfinal round to meet third seed South Florida. That match is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Heyer Park, court B. DePaul (4-18) falls to the back draw and will play the loser of Charlotte and Saint Louis in the ninth-place semifinals.
