Men's Tennis Hosts Marquette, Celebrates Seniors on Saturday

CHICAGO - The DePaul men's tennis team closes out it regular season against BIG EAST Conference rival Marquette on Saturday.  Following the Blue Demons' 2 p.m. match with the Golden Eagles, DePaul will honor Vanja Grgec and Alasdair Graetz in a postmatch Senior Day celebration.

DePaul (7-16, 0-1 BIG EAST) spilt its two matches last weekend as the Blue Demons picked up a 4-3 win over Old Dominion but dropped a tough 4-3 decision at No. 64 William and Mary on April 11.  Douglas Perrin led DePaul last weekend with a pair of wins in the number six singles position while when paired with Graetz, the tandem picked up two wins in the third doubles spot.

Perrin enters the weekend with an 11-10 record in singles play while Mathias Hambach leads the Blue Demons with a 21-16 record. Ben Hartman and Bartosz Jozwiak lead DePaul on the doubles court with an 18-11 record.

The Blue Demons and Golden Eagles are meeting for the eighth time since 2004 with DePaul holding a 5-2 advantage in those meetings.  DePaul won the 2009 meeting 4-3 in the opening round of the BIG EAST Championship.  DePaul's win over the Golden Eagles last season started a championship run that would include a win over then-No. 23 Louisville in the semifinals before the Blue Demons fell to USF in the Championship dual.

Marquette (16-4, 0-0 BIG EAST) has won its last five matches while the Golden Eagles have played their last 11 duals on the road.  Dusan Medan leads Marquette with a 25-10 record while the senior ranks No. 92 in the Campbell's/ITA Collegiate rankings.   Dusan is 13-5 when playing in the number one position while he has won his last two matches.

Graetz and Grgec will be honored at the conclusion of the dual; the two seniors have helped DePaul to a 58-44 record in four years.  The pair helped DePaul to second place league championship in 2009 while Graetz has tallied 70 singles and 73 doubles victories and Grgec has notched 67 singles and 53 doubles wins.

Following Saturday's match the Blue Demons await the BIG EAST Championship pairings on Monday, April 19.  The league championship will be played at Notre Dame's Courtney Tennis Center April 22-25.
