Men's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season on Saturday
April 20, 2018

CHICAGO – After opening the dual-match season with nine consecutive matches away from home, the DePaul men’s tennis team gets to close out the regular season at the friendly confines of Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.

BIG EAST Athlete of the Week Christopher Casati will lead the Blue Demons into their BIG EAST finale at 3:15 p.m. Saturday against longtime rival Marquette.

It will also mark the final home appearance for stalwart senior Alex Galoustian who was named BIG EAST Athlete of the Week earlier this season, the fourth weekly conference award of his career.

He comes into the weekend with a career singles mark of 46-41 in the dual season and an overall career record of 60-42 in doubles. Galoustian was named to the All-BIG EAST Team and also honored as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year in 2015 after racking up a 19-3 record in singles and 14-8 in doubles.

The talented student-athlete from north suburban Glencoe was 19-10 in doubles as a sophomore and 15-10 as a junior.

Casati and his teammates will look to extend the momentum they generated last weekend after a 4-3 BIG EAST walk-off win over Butler and a 4-1 triumph over a New Mexico State team that had beaten DePaul 4-2 last month.

Luuk Wassenaar brings an 11-5 dual record into Saturday’s match and Casati is 10-7. Tripp Tuff is 9-6 this spring while Boris Spanjaard is 12-10. The Blue Demons are 14-9 and 2-1 in conference. They are 5-1 at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.

Marquette comes to Lincoln Park riding a four-match winning streak and sporting a 14-5 record, 4-1 in the BIG EAST. The Golden Eagles downed Georgetown 4-0, Creighton 5-2, Xavier and Butler by identical 7-0 scores and lost to St. John’s 4-3.
