Jose Moncada Named to the BIG EAST All-Conference Team
CHICAGO In a unanimous selection by the BIG EAST Conference men’s tennis coaches, senior Jose Moncada was named to the 2009 All-Conference team for his exceptional performance during the BIG EAST Championships. Moncada was instrumental in the DePaul’s 4-3 win over top-seed Louisville during the semifinals. In the No. 2 singles match, Moncada topped No. 79 Viktor Maksimcuk 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5) to kick start the Blue Demon comeback from a 3-1 deficit. Jose has been a proven leader for the team, having recorded a team-high 26 wins during the 2008-09 season. In the No. 2 singles match he tallied a 16-5 record, including a season-high six match winning streak earlier this year. Moncada, along with doubles partner Alasdair Graetz, paired up to post a 17-9 record together. He has also teamed up to win with Matija Palinic and Austin Doerner. In his three years at DePaul, Moncada has accumulated a doubles tally of 74-39. He leaves with a 71-33 record on the singles court. The BIG EAST All-Conference selections were voted upon by the league’s coaches. They were not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.
