DePaul Men's Tennis Announces Full 2012-13 Schedule
Sept. 12, 2012
CHICAGO - Head coach Matt Brothers and the DePaul men's tennis team announced their full 2012-13 schedule on Wednesday, September 12.
The Blue Demons will be embarking on a busy fall slate this weekend at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. Also on the docket are fall tournaments at Purdue, Baylor, Northwestern and Minnesota in addition to the always-challenging ITA Midwest Regional from October 18-21 in East Lansing, Mich.
"The fall schedule this year is a good balance between having a young team, and getting those guys matches, and also getting our older players some exposure in higher-quality tournaments where maybe we can get them in the rankings," said Brothers, who enters his sixth year at the helm of the program.
Duel matches begin for the Blue Demons in January with a home match against UIC. DePaul then hits the road for a match at Purdue before facing three opponents, Nevada, Oregon and Idaho, in Eugene, Ore. from Feb. 1-3.
"The spring schedule is going to be good. It's not nearly as strong as it was last year, but there's still some good opportunities to play some ranked teams," said Brothers. "We're trying to get guys exposure to different parts of the country. We're primarily an international team, so we like to travel around a bit and see different things. We're travelling out west this year a few times, Oregon and Arizona, for some good matches out there. It'll be an interesting year to see how things play out. The guys are going to get a lot better between now and January; anything can happen."
On Feb. 9 UC Irvine comes to town followed by another home match with Toledo on Feb. 16.
The Blue Demons then travel to Tucson, Ariz. to face both Cal Poly and Arizona over two days (Feb. 23-24) and begin March with the HEB Invitational in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Continuing the road swing, DePaul takes on New Mexico and Northern Arizona in Albuquerque, N.M.
One of just five home dual matches, the Blue Demons will then welcome Wisconsin Green Bay on March 24 before playing Belmont in Nashville, Tenn. and competing in another tournament, the Sunbelt Shoot Out, in the Volunteer State.
The home portion of the schedule comes to a close with a visit from IUPUI on April 6.
DePaul faces its only BIG EAST opponent in duel match format to close out the regular season with another trip to Milwaukee, Wisc. to face Marquette.
The BIG EAST Conference Championships are scheduled for April 18-21 in South Bend, Ind.
