Men's Tennis Finishes Strong At EIU Invitational
CHARLESTON, Ill. -- The Blue Demons men’s tennis team finished strong in the last day of the C. Roger Sorensen Tennis Invitational at Eastern Illinois University. Freshman George Wang continued his winning ways defeating fellow Canuck Charles Levaque of Eastern Illinois, 6-4,3-6,10-4, to capture the Flight “B” championships. Wang is so far undefeated in the fall season. Junior Mark Henderson ran out of gas in the finals of the Flight “A” championships as he lost to Eastern Illinois’ CJ Weber 6-2, 6-4. The Australian native finished the tourney with a 3-1 marker. The duo of juniors Robert Kotrozco and Sam Davidson absolutely dominated the Flight “A” doubles championships beating the top team from IUPUI, 8-3. The doubles team also picked up wins against Eastern Illinois, IP-FW and Xavier to finish the tourney with a perfect 4-0 record. In the back draw of singles competition, Kotrozco got his revenge on Wisconsin-Green Bay defeating Jarrett Cascino easily, 6-0, 6-2, in the finals of the Flight “A” consolation finals. In the Flight “C” consolation championships, sophomore Will Wang thumped Wright State’s Brian Gavin, 6-4, 6-1, to claim the crown. Both Wang and Kotrozco finished the tourney 3-1. The Blue Demons finished a combined 22-10 for the weekend and look forward to keep their winning ways in two weeks, as they compete in the Louisville Invitational in October.
