Men's Tennis Finishes Day One of Milwaukee Classic
ELM GROVE, Wis. The DePaul men’s tennis team opened its fall campaign on Friday at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. The Blue Demons defeated Ball State, 2-1, in doubles after playing Wichita State to a 3-3 draw in singles at the Western Racquet Club.
Jose Moncada and Adam Williams gave DePaul a victory at No. 1 doubles as they topped Ball State’s Jose Perdomo and Jarrod Epkey, 9-7. The Blue Demons also picked up a doubles win from Vanja Grgec and Bartosz Jozwiak, who knocked off Bret Berryman and Daniel Vidal, 8-4, in the No. 3 match. DePaul’s Ben Hartman and Alasdair Graetz fell, 8-3, to Jorge Rodriguez and Eduardo Pavia at No. 2 doubles. DePaul took the lower three singles matches from Wichita State, while the Shockers edged the Blue Demons in the top three flights. Grgec posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Kevin Gardner at No. 4, while Jozwiak earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Scott McCormick in the No. 5 match. Hartman rolled past Rodrigo Briceno with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 6. The top three singles matches between DePaul and Wichita State all went to three sets. Austin Doerner lost, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6, to Thiago Dos Santos at No. 1. Moncada fell, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, to Albert Ballesta at No. 2, and Alasdair Graetz came up short, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, to Adrian Chermaci at No. 3. The Blue Demons continue the Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Saturday at 9 a.m. as they take on BIG EAST Conference rival Marquette in singles action.
