Men's Tennis Defeats Marquette and Wichita State at Milwaukee Classic
ELM GROVE, Wis. The DePaul men’s tennis team posted victories over Marquette and Wichita State on Saturday at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. The Blue Demons topped the Golden Eagles, 6-2, in singles before defeating the Shockers, 3-0, in doubles during day two of the three-day tournament at the Western Racquet Club. DePaul triumphed in six of eight singles flights against BIG EAST Conference rival Marquette. Austin Doerner defeated Niko Boulieris, 6-7, 6-4, 1-0, in the top match, while Jose Moncada rolled past Trent Hagan, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2. Alasdair Graetz posted a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Mark Rutherford at No. 4 and Bartosz Jozwiak defeated Brett Binkley, 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 5 match. Ben Hartman topped Pete Van Lieshout, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) at No. 6 and Adam Williams routed Greg Sirotek, 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 7 flight. The Golden Eagles earned points over the Blue Demons at No. 3 and No. 8; as Vanja Gregec fell to Dusan Medan, 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) and Tim Cadet dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Graydon Klassen. The Blue Demons closed out their day by sweeping the Shockers in doubles play. Doerner and Moncada earned an 8-5 victory over Thiago Dos Santos and Albert Ballesta in the top flight, while Graetz and Williams defeated Adrian Chermaci and Scott McCormick, 9-7, in the No. 2 match. Grgec and Jozwiak topped Kevin Gardner and Rodrigo Briceno, 8-5, in the No. 3 flight. DePaul closes out the Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Sunday.
