Blue Demons Complete Second Day of the Ball State Invitational
MUNCIE, Ind. - The DePaul men's tennis team tallied eight wins during the second day of the 31st annual Ball State Fall Invitational at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Complex and the Lucina Courts. After not playing a match on Friday, Blue Demon freshman Mathias Hambach made a name for himself in the C flight singles bracket. The freshman opened his day with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Xavier's Phil Diaz and concluded singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Ball State's Jon Wegener. With singles play complete, Hambach then paired with Vanja Grgec to win their doubles C flight, 8-2 over Ball State's Shaun Bussert and Wegener. Playing in the A flight doubles, Ben Hartman and Bartosz Jozwiak advanced to the second round when Valparaiso's Kevin DeHerrera and Tom Litscher defaulted. The Blue Demon pair then topped Andres Monroy and Zane Smith from Ball State, 9-7 to advance to the semifinals of the A Flight. Matija Palinic split his two matches in the singles B flight. Palinic topped Chris Cheung from Detroit 6-3, 6-4 in his first match but later fell to Rob Fox from Cleveland State, 6-2, 6-4.
