Doerner and Moncada to Compete at ITA/All-American Championships

CHICAGO Austin Doerner and Jose Moncada represent the DePaul men’s tennis team this weekend at the Ralph Lauren Polo ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Doerner and Moncada join the nation’s top collegiate talent as they enter pre-qualifying singles play on Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Moncada begins pre-qualifying play at 9 a.m. (CST) as he faces Gera Boryanchinskiy of Clemson.  The winner meets TCU’s Adrian Simon in the second round at 2:30 p.m. Doerner holds a first-round bye and takes on Adrew Stubbs of Wofford in the second round at 12:30 p.m.  The 256-player pre-qualifying singles bracket concludes on Sunday with the third and fourth rounds.

The remaining 16 players from the pre-qualifying bracket earn berths in the 128-player qualifying tournament, which runs Monday through Wednesday.  The top 16 players from the qualifying tournament then join the 64-player main draw on Thursday.  The tournament concludes with championship matches on Sunday, October 7.

Moncada gave the Blue Demons 21 singles victories during the 2006-07 campaign and Doerner posted 19 singles wins.  DePaul opened its season last weekend at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, where Moncada went 2-1 in singles and Doerner picked up a win.
