Five More Wins on the Final Day of the Wildcat Fall Invititational
EVANSTON, Ill. The DePaul men’s tennis team concluded its first tournament of the season on Sunday. The Blue Demons finished strong by posting a 5-2 record on the third day and final of competition.
Jose Moncada earned a spot in the Flight A championship match by defeating Alexander Thams of Northwestern, 6-4, 7-6 (8). Iowa’s Christian Bierich took the title by winning 6-1, 6-3. Moncada bounced back from the loss to, along with Alasdair Graetz, take a doubles victory from Western Michigan’s Kevin Hayward and Brad Noel, 9-7. Hayward holds a pre-season doubles ITA ranking of No. 49 along with his teammate, Casey Cullen. Also winning in double’s action was Austin Doerner and Vanja Grgec. The duo beat Reinoud Haal and Austen Kauss of Iowa 8-1. In the Flight A consolation round, Bartosz Jozwiak won over Minnesota’s Jake Annear 6-4, 6-3. Juan Xavier Munoz won his final match of the tournament against Tyler Sauerbrey of Michigan State 6-4, 2-6 (11-9). DePaul is off until Oct. 10, when they travel south to Kentucky for the Louisville Invitational.
