Qualifying Singles | Main Singles Draw | ITA Midwest Doubles Draw
CHICAGO – The DePaul men’s tennis team begins the ITA Midwest Regional on Thursday at Ohio State’s Varsity Tennis Center and Jesse Owens West Tennis Center. The regional runs through Oct. 17 while the main singles and doubles draws are scheduled to begin on Friday, Oct. 14 with qualifying brackets set to begin on Thursday.
The Midwest Regional serves as a precursor to the prestigious USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 3-6 at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. "National Indoors" features the nation's top men's collegiate tennis players in a 32-player singles field and 20-team doubles field.
Vying for a coveted spot in the National Indoor tournament, the Blue Demons join Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, Eastern Illinois, Illinois State, Illinois Chicago, Illinois, IUPUI, Marquette, Michigan State, Michigan, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Toledo, Valparaiso, Western Michigan, Green Bay, Wisconsin and Youngstown for the five-tournament.
Mathias Hambach, Aaron Chaffee and Adam Reinhart will all play in the qualifying bracket Oct. 13-14. Hambach received the No. 6 seed in the bracket and faces Valparaiso’s Eric Honert in his opening round match. Chaffee tangles the No. 10 seed Spencer Talmadge from Notre Dame while Reinhart squares off with Toledo’s Grant Adams.
The first two rounds of the qualifying bracket take place on Oct. 13 before the qualifying matches are played on Friday just before the Main Draw takes center stage that afternoon. The first round of both the singles and doubles will close out play on Friday.
Filip Dzanko opens the main draw against BIG EAST foe, Logon Collins from Marquette and Sven Kasper faces Northwestern’s Tobias Reitz. George Chanturia will have to wait for the qualifying bracket to conclude and will play the No. 4 qualifier.
In the doubles tournament Kasper and Reinhart square off with the No. 4 seed in Michigan’s Evan King and Shaun Bernstein. On the opposite side of the bracket, Chanturia and Dzanko are placed with the Michigan State pair of Christian Roehmer and Doug Zade. Hambach and Chaffee round out the doubles bracket and tangle with the No. 11 seeded duo of Yannick Goosens and Ali Shabib from Cleveland State.
Following the ITA Midwest Regional, the Blue Demons conclude their fall season at the Wildcat Invitational, Oct. 21-23 in Evanston.
