MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. Junior Jose Moncada gave the DePaul men’s tennis team a victory in the main singles draw on Saturday at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships. The Blue Demons finished the day with a 1-4 record in the main singles draw at the Baseline Tennis Center.
Moncada topped Indiana’s Phillip Eilers, 6-3, 6-0, in the first round before coming up short in a three-set loss to Michigan’s Mike Scroczynski in the second round. Moncada dropped a close first set, 7-6, before coming back with a 7-5 victory in the second set. Scroczynski took the match with a 6-2 decision in the third frame.
Junior Austin Doerner, sophomore Vanja Grgec and freshman Ben Hartman failed to advance past the first round of the draw. Doerner dropped a 6-3, 7-6 decision Michigan’s Jason Jung and Grgec suffered a 7-5, 6-1 loss to Indiana’s Dara McLaughlin. Hartman fell, 6-3, 6-2, to Notre Dame’s Andrew Roth. Hartman and Grgec finished the day with victories in singles consolation play.
Saturday's action concluded DePaul's stay at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
