Men's Tennis Opens Rolex Regionals With a Bang



EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Blue Demons men’s tennis team fared well in the first day of action at the 2003 ITA Omni Orrington Hotel Regional Championships at Michigan State University on Thursday.

 

Junior Robert Kotroczo and freshman George Wang advanced to the round of 32 in the qualifying draw. Kotroczo breezed by Indiana’s John Stone 6-2, 6-4, and will play Northwestern’s Ahmed Wahla on Friday. Wang topped Northwestern’s Willy Lock 6-2, 6-4, and plays the winner of the Crieghton Macy (Marquette) and Tyler Dorn (Wisconsin-Green Bay) matchup on Friday.

 

In other action, Junior Sam Davidson dropped his opening round match, losing 6-1, 6-4, to Michigan State’s Joseph McWilliams.

 

Play continues on Friday morning with the final rounds of the qualifying draw.
