KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The DePaul men’s tennis team picked up singles and doubles wins against Michigan State and BIG EAST rival Marquette but failed to beat Western Michigan over the weekend at the Vredevelt Invitational.  The tournament, hosted by Western Michigan, ran Friday through Sunday at the West Hills Athletic Club.

 

Friday’s action saw the Blue Demons fall 4-0 to the Broncos and Spartans in doubles play before defeating the Golden Eagles 3-1.  The sophomore duo of Austin Doerner and Jose Moncada and the senior duo of Jack Komar and George Wang picked up the first two victories for DePaul.  Freshman Vanja Grgec was joined by Brendan Kinkopf of Michigan State to give DePaul the final win over Marquette.

 

The Blue Demons defeated the Spartans 5-2 in singles action on Saturday, propelled by victories from Wang, Doerner, Moncada, Grgec, and freshman Chris Nowak.  DePaul fell 6-1 to the Broncos earlier in the day, with Doerner picking up the lone win.

 

Doerner/Moncada and Nowak/Wilson posted victories on Sunday to help the Blue Demons top Michigan State 2-1 in doubles action.  Doerner/Moncada earned their second doubles win on the day in a rematch that Marquette took 2-1 from DePaul.  Sunday also saw the Blue Demons fall 3-0 to the Broncos.

 

This weekend’s action concluded DePaul’s fall schedule.  The Blue Demons open their winter dual campaign on January 12, 2007 at Northwestern.
