Anna Martin, Brittany Hrynko, Jasmine Penny and Katherine all reach double-figures against the Bulls

Box Score: DePaul 91, USF 75 | Blue Tube: Highlights
CHICAGO - Anna Martin made sure DePaul got off to a fast start on Saturday night.
Martin scored a season-high 35 points as the Blue Demons went on the offensive in a 91-75 BIG EAST Conference victory over USF at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
DePaul improves to 13-4 overall and 2-1 in the BIG EAST.
Martin's 35 points was one shy of equaling her career high. Brittany Hrynko added 22 points, eight assists and four steals while Jasmine Penny finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. Katherine Harry had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Andrea Smith had 35 points and 10 boards for USF (11-4, 0-2).
No doubt Martin wanted to come out strong after a subpar performance in last Tuesday's loss at Villanova.
"It's good I didn't have to wait a whole week before playing again," Martin said. "I played strong defensively against Villanova, but I was nowhere to be found offensively.
"When I'd have bad games last season, the next game I'd keep telling myself to be aggressive and be smart. After a bad game, sometimes you'll start forcing things. Be smart and let the game come to you."
Martin came out on fire, scoring 10 points in the first six minutes of the game. With more than 11 minutes left in the first half, the 5-foot, 9-inch senior guard already had 14 points.
"I was taking my normal shots and they happened to go in," Martin said. "My teammates did a great job of setting me up."
DePaul coach Doug Bruno was impressed with the backcourt tandem of Martin and Hrynko. He pointed out that they had combined for 57 points, and their 10 total assists meant they accounted for 77 of their team's 91 points.
"That is just great guard play," Bruno said. "We had two really special guards out there tonight. When Anna is on fire like that, it demonstrates why she is such a great player. And Brittany's 22 points, eight assists and four steals are really special numbers."
USF led 15-14 early, but Martin and Penny sparked a 13-0 Blue Demon burst that put the home team in front 27-15.
That kind of run is difficult for visiting teams to overcome. DePaul has won nine in a row at McGrath-Phillips.
Hrynko had to come out of the game after picking up her third foul with 5:29 left in the first half. After USF came within 29-20, the Blue Demons closed out the first half on a 14-6 run. That provided a 43-26 lead at halftime.
Martin already had 20 points by then.
Keeping its collective foot on the accelerator, DePaul built a 58-36 lead early in the second half after a pair of Penny inside scores and a Chanise Jenkins three-pointer. A Hrynko three and a Harry layup increased the margin to 66-40 in the middle of the second half.
Like Martin, Harry had a bounce-back game after Villanova.
"I wasn't anywhere in the game offensively or defensively that night," Harry said. "I only had four rebounds, and as big as I am, I need to rebound for our team."
DePaul's next BIG EAST assignment is Tuesday at Syracuse. The game will be carried live in Chicago on Lakeshore Public Television while BlueTube will carry the audio call of Dave Bernhard and Patricia Babcock McGraw.
