PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Khadijah Rushdan’s layup with two second left, pushed No. 11/12 Rutgers to a 65-64 win over No. 23/22 DePaul on Tuesday at the RAC.

Anna Martin paced the floor and DePaul with 26 points including a career-best 13-for-14 from the free throw line.   The Blue Demon junior had three of DePaul’s nine 3-pointers in 38 minutes of action.

The Blue Demons (15-6, 3-4 BIG EAST) who led for 30 minutes and were up by as many as 16 points (56-40) in the second half but saw Rutgers (17-3, 6-1 BIG EAST) go on a 21-6 run and pull within one, 61-62 on a Rushdan jumper with 1:52 to play.

With 33 seconds left in the contest, Rutgers was called for a technical and Martin made both free throws to give the Blue Demons a 64-61 advantage.  With time winding down, Rushdan converted an offensive rebound into a layup with 22 second left.

Deanna Ortiz was fouled on the ensuing inbounds and missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with nine seconds to play.  Rutgers rebounded the miss and Rushdan laid it in with two seconds remaining to give the Scarlet Knights their final advantage.

The first half played even which was indicated by the halftime score – the Blue Demons and Scarlet Knights tied at 32.

After Rutgers scored on its opening two possessions, DePaul went on a 12-2 run.  During DePaul’s scoring outburst, each of Blue Demon’s five starters scored.  Rutgers tied the game at 18 with just over 10 minutes to play.

The Scarlet Knights took a 28-23 advantage, its largest of the half, on a pair of Rushdan free throws with 4:56 to play in the first.

The Blue Demons closed out the half from behind the arc, hitting 3-of-6 from 3-point range to tie the game at 32 heading to the locker room.

DePaul outrebounded Rutgers 37-33 including 15 rebounds from Katherine Harry.  Harry also paced DePaul with five assists and two blocks.

Rushdan led Rutgers with 24 points and nine rebounds.

The Blue Demons return to New Jersey and play at Seton Hall on Jan. 28.  The two teams tip at 1 p.m. (ET) and the game can be heard live on DePaul’s BlueTube.

Notes: First time DePaul has lost three straight since the 2007-08 season... the Blue Demons dropped home games to Notre Dame (Feb. 24) Connecticut (Mar. 1) and at Rutgers (Feb. 27)… Anna Martin eclipsed the 20+ point mark for the 10th time this season and 15th time in her career... went a career-high 13-for-14 from the free throw line... added three assists and seven rebounds... with 26 points she needs four points to tie Felicia Chester for 23rd on DePaul’s all-time scoring list… DePaul made nine three-pointers in the game...was the 80th consecutive game in which the Blue Demons made at least one three… Katherine Harry’s five assists tied a career-high for the junior... fourth time this season the forward has led DePaul in assists… Brittany Hrynko played a career-high 40 minutes... finished with 10 points... reached double-figures for the 12th time this season… Rutgers led for just two seconds of the second half… Khadija Rushdan led Rutgers with 24 points... 10 of which came in the final 10 minutes... Rushdan added a team-best nine rebounds and five assists… Rutgers now leads the all-time series 5-3 and is 4-0 in games played at the RAC… the last four series games between the Blue Demons and Scarlet Knights have been decided by less than 10 total points… tonight’s one-point decision is the closest series game… the previous was DePaul’s two-point win in 2009 in Chicago.
