SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – It was a crowning achievement for coach Doug Bruno and his players Sunday afternoon at Walsh Gymnasium.

Their 72-68 victory over Seton Hall in the conference finale brought DePaul its fifth consecutive BIG EAST regular-season title.

It is the first time in the 44-year history of the program that the Blue Demons have won five league titles in a row.

DePaul (23-7, 15-3) held off a late Seton Hall rally as Kelly Campbell’s two free throws and three by Ashton Millender in the final 12.5 seconds preserved the win.

Millender led the Blue Demons with 16 points and Chante Stonewall came away with her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Lauren Prochaska and Tanita Allen each added 11 points and Campbell grabbed 11 rebounds.

A Seton Hall surge in the third quarter tightened the game to 57-51 going into the fourth quarter. Consecutive Stonewall scores and an Amarah Coleman three-pointer put their team in front 64-56 in the middle of the fourth quarter.

Seton Hall (15-14, 7-11) came within thee until Campbell and Millender went to work at the line.

Millender’s three and a Stonewall score inside helped their team stave off Seton Hall early in the third quarter. It was 49-41 DePaul with 4:54 to go in the period. Seton Hall made a run to close within 49-46 with 3:14 left. A five-point spurt allowed the Blue Demons to take a 57-51 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Blue Demons made a move early in the second quarter sparked by three-pointers from Millender and Lauren Prochaska. Millender hustled for a rebound basket to provide a 25-23 lead at the second quarter media timeout.

Seton Hall pulled ahead by one when Dee Bekelja and Allen went back-to-back from deep in producing a 31-26 lead with 4:26 to go in the quarter. That was the beginning of a 14-0 run that turned the game around as Millender and Chante Stonewall also connected from three-point range.

Outscoring the Pirates 24-8 in the second quarter resulted in a 39-28 lead at halftime as Bruno’s team went 6-for-12 from distance.
