PITTSBURGH – Jasmine Penny led five DePaul players in double-figures with 16 points as the Blue Demons defeated Pittsburgh, 81-73 on Saturday at the Petersen Events Center.  DePaul has won its last two games and improves to 20-9 and 9-6 in BIG EAST Conference games.  Pittsburgh has dropped its last 15 games and falls to 9-19 and is 0-15 in conference games.

Brittany Hrynko scored 15 points and added eight rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Blue Demons.  Anna Martin -- who was playing in just her second game since returning to action after missing eight games with a knee injury -- added 14 points.  Megan Rogowski scored 10 points and has reached double-figures in her last three games.

Katherine Harry recorded her 23rd career double-double with 12 points and 18 rebounds.   The senior’s 18 rebounds represent the most by a BIG EAST Conference player in league play this season.  She now has 560 career rebounds in conference games which is the ninth most in BIG EAST history.

Pittsburgh was paced by Brianna Kiesel’s career-high 28 points. Marquel Davis finished with 13 points while Asia Logan recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

The Blue Demons scored the game’s first basket and a tie at two was as close as Pitt could get for the remaining 39 minutes.

The Blue Demons attacked the Panthers from all over the court as seven different players scored in the opening 20 minutes.  DePaul jumped out to a 7-2 advantage behind layups from Jasmine Penny and Martin while Hrynko drained a deep three to ignite the offense with 17:07 to play.

Pittsburgh would cut the lead to 21-20, but the Blue Demons answered with an 11-3 run which was capped off by a Rogowski 3-pointer.

DePaul went to the locker room up seven, 36-29 after Harry battled in the paint for a layup with eight second left in the stanza.

The Panthers capitalized on DePaul’s cold shooting to begin the second half and pulled within two, 37-39 on a Logan layup with 16:38 to play.  Over the next three-plus minutes the Blue Demons locked down on defense and Martin and Penny fueled a 10-2 Blue Demon run which put DePaul ahead, 49-39 with 13:16 to play.

The two teams traded baskets and DePaul took its largest lead of game, 73-61 when Hrynko knocked down a layup as the shot clock expired and there was just 2:07 left to play.

Just like in the team’s previous meeting in Chicago, Pittsburgh made it interesting in the final minutes; but DePaul made its final six free throw attempts to seal the road victory.

The Blue Demons close the regular season at St. John’s at 7 p.m. on Monday.  The game can be seen on ESPN3 or the WatchESPN app.
