MILWAUKEE - No. 17/17 DePaul will shoot for its third BIG EAST tournament crown in the last four years after eliminating St. John's 59-41 from the postseason on Monday night.

Jessica January led the Blue Demons (26-6) in this defensive showdown with 20 points. DePaul held the Red Storm (20-11) to 26.4 percent shooting (14-of-53).

DePaul will face tournament host Marquette in the 8 p.m. Tuesday championship game that will be televised on FS1. Marquette is the only team in the conference to beat the Blue Demons.

After trailing early and recovering to lead 12-9 after the first quarter, the Blue Demons moved out to a 19-11 lead in the middle of the second quarter.

Chante Stonewall fueled the burst after having her best game of the season on Sunday night. Lauren Prochaska's three gave DePaul a 19-11 advantage.

Amarah Coleman scored the next four points, enabling the top-seeded Blue Demons to close the second quarter on a 10-2 run. They headed to the locker room with a 29-13 lead against a St. John's team that stresses defense in low-scoring contests.

What gave DePaul its first significant lead of the game was outscoring the Red Storm 17-4 in the second quarter. The Blue Demon defense locked down on the St. John's attack and held the visitors to 18.5 percent shooting (5-of-27) in the first half.

The margin was 39-22 midway through the third quarter as the Red Storm was shooting just 21.6 percent at that juncture. DePaul led 41-27 heading into the final 10 minutes.

January's five quick points and Stonewall's layup at the outset of the fourth quarter put their team ahead 48-27. January had seven of the team's first nine points in securing a 50-30 lead.

DePaul is right back at the McGuire Center Tuesday for the 8 p.m. championship game that will be televised on FS1. The Blue Demons will be shooting for their third tournament title in the last four years.
