DePaul Falls to Connecticut in BIG EAST Quarterfinals

HARTFORD, Conn. - DePaul could not overcome Connecticut's hot first half and fell to the Huskies 94-61 on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Championship at the XL Center.
Breanna Stewart led UConn with 21 points. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Stephanie Dolson each chipped in 16 points while Moriah Jefferson and Bria Hartley each added 12.
Connecticut (28-3) shot 51.9 percent for the game and was 12-of-29 from behind the arc.
The Blue Demons (21-11) rebounded from a tough first-half shooting performance and shot 40.5 percent from the field in the second half. All of Rogowski's points can in the final 20 minutes, while the sophomore tied a career-high with four 3-pointers.
Connecticut started the game 9-of-16 from the floor which included four early 3-pointers as the Huskies raced out to a 21-11 advantage with 13:46 to play.
DePaul got stuck on 11, before Podkowa made her first of two triples in the half. The freshman led the Blue Demons in the opening 20 minutes with eight points and was 2-of-4 from behind the arc.
UConn recorded six triples in the first half and was 21-of-43 from the field and went to the locker room up 49-23 behind 14 points from Dolson.
DePaul started the second half on a mini 4-0 run after Penny and Anna Martin both made 10-foot jumpers. Martin would finish the game with nine points.
After DePaul's quick scoring output, Connecticut answered with a 20-5 run and led 69-32 with 12:30 to play.
The Blue Demons locked down on their defense, chased down loose balls and used a 14-2 run over the next 2:12 to cut the UConn lead to 73-48 with 7:48 to play. DePaul's run was fueled by nine points from Rogowski. The sophomore drained a pair of 3-pointers and completed the three point play to key DePaul's offensive outburst.
DePaul matched UConn's six 3-pointers in the second half.
Katherine Harry also added three key blocks.
DePaul awaits the announcement of the NCAA Tournament bracket on Monday, Mar. 18. The Blue Demons will hosts their annual Selection Show party at McGrath-Phillips Arena. Head coach Doug Bruno and the Blue Demons will watch the ESPN Selection Show on the big screen. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the event is free and open the public.
