STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Led by Felicia Chester’s double-double, the third seeded DePaul women’s basketball team overcame a slow start and topped Navy 56-43 to advance to the second round for first time since 2006.

The Blue Demons (28-6) stuck to their game plan and made Navy uncomfortable as the Mids had to move inside the 3-point line to score.  Navy, who averages 7.6 3-pointers per game, mustered just four while DePaul’s defense forced 23 turnovers and scored 20 points off those turnovers.

Using their size, DePaul went to Katherine Harry (10 points), Chester (12 points) and Keisha Hampton (nine points) to spark their offense and outscore the Navy 32-18 in the paint.

DePaul held a 39-35 rebounding advantage while grabbing 20 offensive boards compared to Navy’s 10.

The Blue Demons, who came into the game shooting.452 from the field, were just 12-of-39 (.308) in the first half and went to the locker room up, 24-21

Navy (20-12) briefly took a 30-29 lead on Alix Membreno’s 3-pointer, but a layup by Sam Quigley with 15:24 left in the contest would give DePaul the lead for good.

Over the next five minutes the Blue Demons and Mids traded baskets, but the Blue Demons never relinquished their lead and controlled the tempo.

With a 41-40 advantage with 10:28 on the clock, the Blue Demons did not allow Navy another field goal the rest of the way and closed out the game on a 15-3 run.

Chester collected her fifth career double-double and paced DePaul with 12 points, 10 rebounds and tied a career high with six steals. Martin added 10 points, and Harry reached double figures for the 23rd time in her career.

DePaul plays First and Second Round host Penn State on Monday for the right to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.  The Blue Demons and Nittany Lions tip at 7 p.m. (ET) and the game can be seen live on ESPN2.
