DePaul dismantles Saint Xavier 128-77 in tune-up for Friday's season opener

CHICAGO -- Behind swarming defense that resulted in 47 points off turnovers, the DePaul women's basketball team dominated Saint Xavier 128-77 in exhibition action Sunday evening at Wintrust Arena.

Against Saint Xaver, seven Blue Demons recorded double digits in scoring. Fifth-year senior Rebekah Dahlman and junior Tanita Allen led DePaul, netting 21 and 20 points, respectively. Chante Stonewall (16 points, 4 rebounds), Mart'e Grays (15 points, 4 rebounds,) and Amarah Coleman (12 points, 4 rebounds) rounded out the top performers for the host. Of note, sophomore Kelly Campbell recorded a double-double, tallying 11 points while bringing down 10 boards.

The two teams traded baskets early where DePaul held a 10-8 edge midway through the opening quarter. In the closing minutes of the first quarter, Dahlman spurred DePaul to a 22-8 run, featuring two key three pointers from the fifth-year transfer. The Blue Demons finished the opening quarter with a 32-16 lead.

DePaul continued its full-court pressure defense in the second quarter, stretching their lead to 61-36 at the half. Allen and Dahlman led all game scorers going into the break with 12 points apiece.  The Blue Demons wound up forcing a total of 38 turnovers in the game.

Allen continued her hot shooting out of the intermission. With 4:36 to go in the third quarter the guard stood 7-for-9 from the field for a game high 20 points. DePaul's highest scoring quarter came in the third when the Blue Demons posted 38 points to go ahead of the Cougars 99-61.

With the result in hand, the Blue Demons mixed in the majority of its reserves in the fourth quarter.

DePaul opens the 2017-18 season on Friday, Nov. 10 against Northern Colorado. Tip-off from the McGrath-Phillips Arena is set for 7 p.m.
