CHICAGO - Five Blue Demons put up double figures as the DePaul women's basketball team used its familiar frenetic pace to blow past Harvard, 99-75, in the team's 2013-14 season opener as part of the Maggie Dixon Classic at McGrath-Phillips Arena.

DePaul stormed out of the gates to a 61-point first half before cruising to a 24-point win as it won its seventh straight season opener and improved to 31-9 all-time in the season's inaugural game.

Senior forward Jasmine Penny led the Blue Demons with a game-high 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting, while sophomore guard Megan Rogowski got off to a good start as well with 15 points on the strength of four three-pointers.

Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year Brittany Hrynko added 12 points along with backcourt mate Chanise Jenkins. Sophomore Megan Rogowski chipped in with 11 points as the Blue Demons narrowly missed their first 100-point game since 2010.

Harvard (0-1) received 13-point efforts from Erin McDonnell and AnnMarie Healy in the setback.

The action was fast-paced throughout the first half as DePaul raced out to a big lead early. Penny supplied a pair of fast break buckets and DePaul registered five of the game's first six buckets in the first two minutes as the Blue Demons got off to a 12-1 start.

A three by Rogowski would then give the Blue Demons a 16-point advantage, 41-25, with 6:06 to go in the half.

As play continued, the shots continued to fall from all over as DePaul built its lead all the way to 26 on a triple by ShaKeya Graves with 1:03 to play. The Blue Demons would take a 61-36 advantage into the locker room after hitting 11 three-pointers and shooting a scorching 56 percent from the field.

Individually, Penny led the team with 15 points on 6-for-6 shooting in the opening frame.

Harvard grabbed the first points of the second half to get within 23, but the Crimson would get no closer as the Blue Demons' pressure defense and crisp shooting continued to work in their favor.

DePaul used a 9-4 spurt to open its lead up to 30, at 70-40, right out of the gates after back-to-back layups by Hrynko. With 9:07 to go a transition bucket by Brooke Schulte resulted in a game-high 31-point advantage, 84-53, for the Blue Demons. DePaul had a couple chances to break into triple digits at the end of the game, but settled for a 99-point effort - the most for DePaul since reaching the century mark vs. Illinois State on December 1, 2010 in a 100-83 win.

The Blue Demons will now face Duquesne in the team's final game at the Maggie Dixon Classic tomorrow at McGrath-Phillips Arena. Tip is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (CT).

The final game of the tournament, featuring Cal Poly and Harvard, will begin at 8:00 p.m.
