CHICAGO -- DePaul junior forward Keisha Hampton scored DePaul's first points and did not stop as the junior lifted the Blue Demons to an 84-53 win over Valparaiso, Friday in the opening round of the WNIT, at McGrath Arena.

Hampton led a quartet of Blue Demons in double figures.  The junior registered 27 points while Felicia Chester finished with 18, Anna Martin had 16 and Deanna Ortiz recorded a career-high 11 to round out DePaul's double-digit scorers.

With the game tied at four, Hampton started firing and could not miss.  The forward fueled DePaul's 21-7 run with 10 points of her own, on 4-of-5 shooting.

The Crusaders fought back and got within six, 25-19 on a Betsy Adam's 3-pointer, but the Blue Demons quickly regained their double-digit advantage and took a 43-31 lead to the locker room at the half.

DePaul took its first 20-point lead, 60-39 on an Anna Martin layup with 12:18 left to play.  Valpo would get within 15 on a 3-pointer by Rashida Ray, but an 8-0 run by DePaul would stop the Crusaders comeback hopes.

The Blue Demons shot .421 from the field and distributed the ball exceptionally well. DePaul's point guards -- Sam Quigley and China Threatt combined for 11 of DePaul's 22 assists.

With DePaul off and running, its defense clamped down and stymied Valparaiso's offensive efforts as the Crusaders shot just under 36 percent for the game.  The Blue Demons forced Valpo into 31 turnovers while 19 of those came on a steal.  Hampton tied a career-high with five steals, while Katherine Harry also tied a career mark with four takeaways.

Valparaiso was led by Adam's 15 points while Stefanie Lang and Tabitha Gerardot each had 10.

DePaul travels to Missouri State for a second round contest with Bears.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (CST) with the winner advancing to the Semifinals of the Preseason WNIT.
