Senior guard nets season-high as DePaul eclipses 90-point mark for second time this season

CHICAGO – Anna Martin exploded for a season-high 30 points, putting on a show for a packed house as the DePaul women’s basketball team defeated Milwaukee, 94-83, on Tuesday’s Field Trip Day at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
The 94 points represented the Blue Demons’ second-highest scoring output of the season as DePaul improved to 7-3 overall. Milwaukee fell to 4-6 despite a career outing from junior guard Angela Rodriguez, who matched Martin with a 30-point effort of her own.
The Panthers used a relentless three-point barrage to hang close, sinking 14-of-33 attempts to set an opponent record for made three-point field goals at McGrath-Phillips Arena. The previous record was held by Louisville, which hit 13 from beyond the arc on January 12, 2001.
Martin was joined in double figures by Jasmine Penny, who tied a season-high with 22 points and added eight rebounds on 11-of-17 shooting. Sophomore guards Brittany Hrynko and Megan Rogowski also pitched in with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Hrynko and Chanise Jenkins paced the Blue Demons with seven assists apiece. Jenkins also added four steals while the freshman was one of three DePaul players to finish with eight rebounds.
Milwaukee opened up the game with five straight points to build what would be their biggest lead before Martin responded with DePaul’s first nine points which evened the game, 9-9.
With Milwaukee leading 16-15 at the 12:22 mark, the Blue Demons raced off on a 10-0 run spanning the next 5:50 to build a nine-point lead.
DePaul would eventually build its lead up to 15, 41-26, on a triple by Hrynko but the Panthers would respond with eight straight points over the final 1:35 to pull within seven heading into the break.
Coming out of the locker room, the Blue Demons stepped up with a 59 percent shooting percentage (23-of-39) to keep the Panthers at bay. In the opening minute of the second stanza, Milwaukee drew within seven but would get no closer the rest of the way.
At 10:47, leading 67-56, the Blue Demons used a 17-5 run spanning the next 5:34 to go up 20 when Hrynko hit her second three of the game.
DePaul eventually stretched its lead to a game-high 22, 88-66, at the 3:07 mark on a lay-in by Hrynko before coasting to an 11-point victory, 94-83.
The Blue Demons return to the court on Saturday at 7 p.m. and host Northern Illinois.
