CHICAGO - Before looking ahead to the New Year, DePaul came into McGrath-Phillips Arena Friday night determined to finish off 2012 in style.

And with the kind of fireworks we'll be seeing in a few days, the Blue Demons lit up Oral Roberts 97-74 in their final nonconference game. It was the fifth win in a row for DePaul (11-3)

Sharing the offensive opportunities, the Blue Demons had six players in double figures for the first time this season. Anna Martin led the way with 19 points along with five assists and three steals.

Jasmine Penny had 17 points while Brittany Hrynko finished with 16 points, six assists and four steals. Katherine Harry contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds and Chanise Jenkins came through with 12 points, a career-high 10 assists and six rebounds. Off the bench, Megan Rogowski had 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

A 36-point lead in the second half was the largest of the season, topping the 34-point advantage over Northwestern on Dec. 2nd. DePaul registered season highs in points, three-pointers with 13 and assists with 29.

"We turned the page on 2012 and wanted to go out with a bang tonight," said DePaul coach Doug Bruno. "I really like the 29 assists we had tonight, and we're really showing some good offensive chemistry.

"But the ability to sustain defensive effort is something that has to be figured out by our team. We held Oral Roberts to 28 points in the first half and gave up 46 points in the second half.

"You've got to do it at both ends in our league. That's not going to cut it in the BIG EAST Conference."

The Blue Demons took off on a game-defining run outscoring the Golden Eagles 18-4 in the latter stages of the first half. Rogowski drilled a pair of three-pointers while Jenkins and Hrynko each hit from behind the arc in building a 44-24 lead.

Penny finished off a 15-point first half with a layup as the Blue Demons went into halftime with a 51-28 lead. Oral Roberts (3-8) made just one of its 11 attempts from three-point land in the first half while DePaul was 6-for-16 and finished up 13-for-30.

There was no letup in the Blue Demons at the outset of the second half as another Martin three-pointer provided a 63-33 lead. A Rogowski free throw made it 82-48 midway through the second half.

"Everything is starting to connect offensively," Jenkins said. "But we've got to get a lot stronger on defense."

A combination of Penny and Martin defended Oral Roberts' leading scorer Kevi Luper who came in averaging 22 points a game. Luper finished with 17 points on 6-of-15 shooting.

"I didn't have her (Luper) the whole game," Penny said. "She is tough to guard, but we did a good job on her. Now, we have to do a better job defensively as a team."

Martin keyed an early 8-2 spurt with a three-pointer followed by a steal and a layup off a nice feed from Jenkins. That put DePaul ahead 17-11.

A pair of Hrynko free throws capped off a six-point burst for a 23-14 advantage in the middle of the first half.

"We have some talented offensive players, and it's the psyche of scorers that they can come right back down and score," Bruno said. "We have to pound defense into their heads when they're used to simply outscoring people.

"The standard was set by the defensive effort in the first half. You don't stop executing in the second half just because you're up."

DePaul will have a week to tighten up the defense before opening its BIG EAST season Jan. 5 with a 5 p.m. game against No. 12/12 Louisville at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
