Jasmine Penny ties a career-high with 29 points in the Blue Demons final non-conference game

PEORIA, Ill. - Jasmine Penny tied a career-high with 29 points to lead the DePaul women's basketball team to a 91-67 victory over Bradley, on Sunday at Renaissance Coliseum. The Blue Demons have won their last five games and improve to 9-3 while the Braves slip to 3-8.
Penny entered the game needing just three points to become DePaul's 29th 1,000-point scorer. The senior wasted no time and on her third shot of the game, Jessica January found Penny under the basket for the career milestone. Penny was unstoppable and connected on 13-of-14 from the field, while adding five rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Chanise Jenkins and Kelsey Reynolds also reached double-figures for the Blue Demons. Jenkins, who was making her 45th consecutive start, scored a career-high 19 points which included three triples. Reynolds came off the bench and scored a season-best 13 points. The senior connected on a career-high 3-of-6 from behind the arc.
January, who entered the starting line-up for Megan Rogowksi who missed the game due to illness, facilitated the offense with a season-high six assists while also adding a team-high seven rebounds and four points. Brittany Hrynko dished out 10 assists and had three steals.
DePaul shot over 50 percent for the third time this season and tied a season-high with 28 assists. With DePaul running on all cylinders and the Blue Demons suffocating Bradley on defense the Blue Demons forced 24 Braves turnovers and tallied 15 steals.
After Bradley scored the game's first basket, the Blue Demons scored seven straight which forced a Braves timeout with just over 18 minutes to play. Bradley put together is own run and tied the game at 13 before a Megan Podkowa steal and a Hrynko layup game DePaul the lead for the remainder of the contest with 14:16 in the half.
The Blue Demons first double-digit lead of the game (34-23) came on a Jenkins layup with just under five minutes to play. Penny led the Blue Demons with 18 and Jenkins added 12 in the first stanza.
DePaul took its first 20-point advantage (63-43) when Penny found a flashing Podkowa under the basket with just over 13 minutes to play.
The Blue Demons largest lead of the game 84-52 came on a Reynolds' third triple of the game.
Bradley shot 46.6% from the field and was paced by Kelsey Budd's 17 points. Kelly Frings scored 11 points.
DePaul brings in 2014 with a 4 p.m. BIG EAST Conference game with Xavier. The New Year's Day game will be played in Lincoln Park.
