CHICAGO – The DePaul women’s basketball team opens BIG EAST Conference play when it welcomes No. 11/10 Louisville to McGrath-Phillips Arena on Saturday.  The 5 p.m. (CT) clash between the Blue Demons and Cardinals has been tabbed the BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Game of the Week and can be seen on the BIG EAST Network and ESPN3 with Bob Picozzi and LaChina Robinson calling the action.

DePaul’s BlueTube will carry the game and GameTracker is also available.  In-game scoring and notes can be followed at www.twitter.com/DePaulWBBSID.

Both the Blue Demons and Cardinals put their respective winning streaks on the line in the conference opener for both teams.  DePaul (11-3) has won its last five games while Louisville (12-2) has been victorious in its last three.

Facing off for the 30th time in the programs’ histories, DePaul leads the all-time series 15-14 and is 9-5 in games played on its home floor.  Since McGrath-Phillips Arena opened in 2000-01, DePaul is 5-2 in games against the Cardinals including the last two.

Saturday’s game is the first of two between the Blue Demons and Cardinals this season with the second coming at the KFC Yum! Center on Feb. 17 in Kentucky.

Looking for high-octane offense from both teams -- DePaul’s fast-paced offense is anchored by All-American senior Anna Martin and junior Jasmine Penny.  Martin leads the Blue Demons with 16.2 points per game, while Penny follows with 15.1.  The Blue Demon pair has kicked it into overdrive during DePaul’s five-game winning streak averaging 22.4 and 17.0 points, respectively.

On the season, Penny leads the Blue Demons from the field with her .544 (86-for-144) field goal percentage and is 39-for-50 (.780) from the charity stripe.  Martin boasts a 2.73 assist-to-turnover ratio and is one of three Blue Demon guards to rank in the top five in the league in assists with 4.6 a contest.

Sophomore Brittany Hrynko and freshman Chanise Jenkins round out DePaul’s explosive guard trio and help spread the Blue Demon offensive with 5.1 assists apiece.  Hrynko and Jenkins tie for second in the BIG EAST in assists, while Jenkins is coming off a 10-assist outing against Oral Roberts on Dec. 28.

With the guards running the offense, Katherine Harry patrols the glass with authority.  The Blue Demon senior leads the conference with 11.3 rebounds per game which is 2.0 more rebounds than any other player in the league.  Harry enters the Louisville game with 962 career rebounds and is on pace to become just the fifth player in DePaul’s history to grab 1,000 rebounds.

Louisville is led by sophomore Sara Hammond who is averaging 12.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Hammond is coming off a 16-point and 11-rebound performance in Louisville’s 88-25 victory over Tennessee State on Dec. 31.

Following Saturday’s game, the Blue Demons hit the road and travel to Villanova for a 6 p.m. (CT) game on Jan. 9.  DePaul returns to McGrath-Phillips Arena on Jan. 12 when USF visits Lincoln Park for a 7 p.m. showdown.
