CHICAGO – The DePaul women’s basketball team returns to Lincoln Park and begins a two-game BIG EAST Conference homestand when it hosts Providence on Wednesday, Jan. 8.  The Blue Demons and Friars tip at 7 p.m. (CT) and the game can be seen live on Lakeshore Public Television in Chicago and nationally on Fox College Sports Atlantic.  Dave Bernhard and Trish Babcock McGraw will handle the games’ announcing duties.

DePaul (10-4, 1-1 BIG EAST) has won six of its last seven games, while it is coming off an 86-78 setback at Creighton on Jan. 4.  The Blue Demons are paced by Jasmine Penny’s 26.5 points per game in league games.  Penny’s scoring average leads the BIG EAST, while her 68.8 field goal percentage ranks second.

Penny has scored at least 26 points in each of her last three games and was recently named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.  The senior, has earned Honor Roll accolades in four weeks this season, while she was named the league’s Player of the Week on Dec. 30.

With DePaul pushing the pace on offense; the Blue Demons rank 13th in Division I with 83.9 points per game and have scored no less than 73 points in all 14 games this season.  DePaul also ranks fourth in DI with 20.8 assists and is sixth with 12.6 steals per game.  

Brittany Hrynko leads DePaul and ranks second in league with 5.7 assists and is fourth with 2.1 steals per game.  Chanise Jenkins is also proficient on the pass and is dishing out 5.2 assists per outing, while her 2.92 assist-to-turnover ratio ranks 15th in DI and second in the BIG EAST.

Providence (5-8) is looking for its first BIG EAST win after dropping contests to Butler (68-65) and at Villanova (68-59).  The Friars have dropped their last three games and seven of their last eight games after starting the season 4-1.

A small roster, Providence has eight available women, while no student-athlete has played in less than 10 games.  Tori Rule leads the Friar assault with 16.6 points, while the senior is also leading the team in minutes (31.8), 3-pointers (24), 3-point field goal percentage (.304) and steals (22).

DePaul and Providence are meeting for the 12th time, while the Blue Demons lead the all-time series 7-4.  In the last four meetings – both DePaul and Providence have won two games on their respective home courts.  DePaul is 5-0 all-time in games played in Lincoln Park.

Wednesday’s game is also DePaul University Faculty/Staff Appreciate Night.  DePaul faculty and staff, who register in advance will receive a free ticket to the game and is invited to a pregame reception with food and soda at 6 p.m. in the Lincoln Park Student Center.

Following DePaul’s midweek meeting with the Friars, the Blue Demons return to McGrath-Phillips Arena and host St. John’s at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11.
