Women's Hoops Hosts USF on Saturday

CHICAGO - The DePaul women's basketball team puts its eight-game McGrath-Phillips Arena winning streak on the line when it welcomes USF for a 7 p.m. BIG EAST Conference game on Jan. 12.  The 21st meeting between the two programs can be heard live on DePaul's BlueTube.  GameTracker is also available while in-game scoring and notes can be followed at www.twitter.com/DePaulWBBSID.

The Blue Demons (12-4, 1-1 BIG EAST) are looking to bounce back from a 65-45 loss at Villanova on Wednesday.  The loss snapped DePaul's six-game winning streak, while the Blue Demons have won seven of their last nine games including eight-straight at McGrath-Phillips Arena.

Three Blue Demons - Anna Martin, Jasmine Penny and Brittany Hrynko - are averaging double-digits with Martin leading the trio with 15.9 points per game.  Both Penny and Hrynko sit at 14.6. Hrynko is coming off a 17-point performance at Villanova and is averaging 19.0 points against BIG EAST opponents.

Hrynko leads the Blue Demons with 43 3-pointers and is one of the best 3-point shooters in the conference. The sophomore ranks third in the league with 2.7 triples per game. Chanise Jenkins and Martin are also ranked in the top 15 in 3-pointers per game while the Blue Demons are averaging 7.5 triples per outing.

The potent combination of Hrynko, Martin and Jenkins have accounted for nearly 74 percent of the team's assists.  Hrynko is second in the league with 5.1 assists per game while Jenkins (4.8) ranks fourth and Martin follows in seventh with 4.3.

USF (11-3, 0-1 BIG EAST) comes to Lincoln Park after taking No. 2 Notre Dame to overtime on Jan. 8, but would eventually fall to the Irish 75-71. Andrea Smith, who is averaging 17.6 points on the season, put up a career-high 33 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against the Irish.

Saturday's game is the 21st meeting between the two programs, while the Blue Demons and Bulls met twice during the 2011-12 season.  USF defeated DePaul in overtime (66-63) in Tampa before DePaul won the second meeting, 76-62 in the Second Round of the BIG EAST Championship.  The Blue Demons lead the all-time series 13-7 and are 6-2 in games played in Chicago.   

Following Saturday's contest, the Blue Demons hit the road and play at Syracuse on Tuesday.  The 6 p.m. (CT) contest can be seen live in Chicago on Lakeshore Public Television and on Time Warner in the Syracuse area.

Autism Awareness Day vs. USF: The Blue Demons have teamed up with the DePaul chapter of Alpha XI Delta and to create awareness and raise funds for those affected by Autism.

Halftime Favorite: The Jesse White Tumblers will preform at during halftime of Saturday’s game.  

Autographs:  The Blue Demon women will sign autographs at the conclusion of Saturday’s game on the court.  Fans can bring memorabilia to be signed by their favorite student-athlete.
