Khara Smith Named To Midseason Wooden Award List
Women's Wooden Award Midseason Top 20
CHICAGO – Preseason Conference USA Player of the Year Khara Smith was one of 20 players recently selected to the Women's Wooden Award Midseason All-American team. A poll conducted by the John R. Wooden Women's Award National Advisory Board determined the midseason candidates. The junior forward was also one of 50 players on the preseason list.
Smith leads the Blue Demons, ranked No. 17 in the Associated Press top 25 and No. 18 in the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Coaches' poll, with 18.9 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. Those offensive numbers fuel the nation's highest-scoring offense with 85.4 points per game. She has tallied 13 double-doubles and is one of five players in school history with at least 1,300 points and 800 career rebounds.
Earlier this season, Smith was named the Conference USA Player of the Week after totaling a season-high 32 points to go with 13 rebounds and five blocked shots at Saint Peter's. It was the first time this season and the seventh career occasion that Smith has earned C-USA's weekly honor. She has scored at least 20 points in seven games this season and grabbed at least 14 rebounds on six occasions.
The Blue Demons put their 18-game home floor winning streak on the line this weekend with games against UAB and USF. The Blue Demons and Blazers tip off at 7 p.m. on Friday followed by DePaul and USF on Sunday at 2 p.m. Sunday's game against the Bulls can be seen live on FSN Chicago. Both games will be played at the DePaul Athletic Center.
