CHICAGO - The DePaul women's basketball team returns to Lincoln Park and the hardwood on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. BIG EAST Conference game with Pittsburgh. The tilt will be carried live in Chicago on The U Too (WCIU-DT2) with Dave Bernhard (play-by-play) and Patricia Babcock McGraw (analyst) calling all the action. Tuesday's game marks the first of two BIG EAST regular season meetings for the two teams. The Blue Demons return the trip to Pittsburgh on Mar. 2. This week's game marks the 11th all-time series meeting with the Blue Demons leading the series 6-4 and has won the last three series contests. DePaul is 3-1 in games played at McGrath-Phillips Arena including the last two.
The Blue Demons (15-5, 4-2 BIG EAST) put their 10-game McGrath-Phillips Arena winning streak on the line against the Panthers. The streak, which has been active since a 68-51 victory over Howard on Nov. 17, 2012, is the 17th 10-game winning streak at McGrath-Phillips Arena since the 2000-01 season.
During its current winning streak, the Blue Demons are averaging 85.3 points and has eclipsed the 90-point mark in four contests. DePaul's stingy defense is holding opponent to just 69.2 points while Northern Illinois (Dec. 11, 2012) was held to just 46 points.
Offensively, DePaul is led by Brittany Hrynko's 15.5 points per game, while the sophomore has reached double-figures in her last eight games. The Philadelphia native is averaging 19.2 points in BIG EAST games which ranks third, behind Georgetown's Sugar Rodgers (21.3) and USF's Andrea Smith's 20.5 points.
On the season, Hrynko leads the Blue Demons in 3-pointers (55), 3-point field goal percentage (.359), assists (109) and steals (38). Hrynko along with freshman Chanise Jenkins and Anna Martin, who is recovering from a knee injury, has accounted for 275 of DePaul's 376 assists (73.1 percent). Hrynko is second in the BIG EAST with 5.5 assists per game and Jenkins fifth with 4.7.
Pittsburgh (9-10, 0-6 BIG EAST) is looking to snap its six-game losing streak and to pick up its third road-victory of the season. The Panthers are averaging just 51.5 points per game in BIG EAST games and are coming off a 69-57 loss at Georgetown on Jan. 26.
Pittsburg is led by Asia Logan's 15.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Logan, who has provided the Panthers with consistent offense did not play against the Irish on Jan. 23, but has started the other 18 games for Pittsburgh.
Following Tuesday's game, the Blue Demons head to rival Marquette on Saturday for a 7 p.m. road contest in Milwaukee. DePaul returns to Lincoln Park at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6 when it hosts Seton Hall.
