Harry's Double-Double Sends DePaul Past Cincinnati
CHICAGO - Five Blue Demons reached double-digits as the DePaul women's basketball team topped Cincinnati 71-63 on Wednesday in BIG EAST Conference action at McGrath Arena.
Katherine Harry tallied her fourth career double-double as the freshman finished with 15 points and tied a career-high with 18 rebounds. The freshman leads the Blue Demons with 8.0 boards per contest while Harry grabbed a season-high 10 offensive rebounds in a night where she shined in the paint.
With DePaul running on all cylinders and having a huge presence down low, Sam Quigley registered a team-high 16 points while Anna Martin and Felicia Chester each finished with 11 and Keisha Hampton rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points.
DePaul (14-7, 3-4 BIG EAST) recovered from a slow start as Cincinnati jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the opening 4:02 of play.
Down by six, Martin cut the deficit in half with a 3-pointer, Hampton followed with a 10-foot jumper and Harry gave the Blue Demons the lead for good with a putback with 13:45 on the clock.
On the heels of a 7-0 run, the Blue Demons scored an additional seven unanswered points before Cincinnati's Shareese Ulis made a jumper with 9:32 left to play in the half.
Up 16-10, the Blue Demons got production from their bench as Maureen Mulchrone sunk DePaul's third 3-pointer of the half and Jennifer Juergens converted Chester's pass into a layup.
Chester and Quigley combined for 10 of Blue Demon's final 12 points of the half and DePaul went to the locker room with a 35-29 advantage.
Cincinnati (9-10, 2-5 BIG EAST) opened the second half on a 9-2 run and pulled within one, 37-36 on Ulis' layup with 17:42 left to play.
The Blue Demons answered; Martin executed the three-point-play, Hampton got under the basket for two and Harry converted DePaul's second three-point-play of the half as DePaul's lead quickly ballooned to 47-36 with 16:00 remaining.
The Blue Demons took their largest lead of the game, 71-57 on a Quigley jumper with 3:48 left to play.
Cincinnati was led by Kahla Roudebush's 16 points. The guard was 10-for-10 from the charity stripe, while Roudebush also grabbed five rebounds. Michelle Jones led the Bearcats with eight boards.
DePaul returns to action on Sunday against BIG EAST rival Marquette. The Blue Demons and Golden Eagles tip at 3 p.m., and the game can be seen live on ESPNU with Jim Barbar and Brooke Weisbrod calling the action.
