Khara Smith Named C-USA Player of the Week
CHICAGO – For the second time this season and eighth time in her career, DePaul’s Khara Smith has been named Conference USA’s Player of the Week. The junior picked up the weekly honor after tallying a pair of double-doubles in victories over UAB and USF.
Smith and the No. 17 Blue Demons posted an 85-52 win over the UAB Blazers on Friday night. In just 22 minutes of action, she totaled 16 points, 14 rebounds, five steals and three assists. The 14th double-double of the season was also the 45th career game where she has totaled at least 10 points and 10 rebounds.
She followed Friday’s performance with a 24-point, 17-rebound effort against USF. Smith got the Blue Demons going in the first half when she reeled off seven straight points to put DePaul ahead by 13 in a 74-66 victory. She also added four assists as the Blue Demons won at home for the 20th straight time.
For the week, Smith went 17-of-28 (.607) from the field while averaging 20.0 points and 15.5 rebounds per game. The National Player of the Year candidate has now reached double-figures in 30 consecutive games.
DePaul travels to Louisville and Cincinnati next weekend for a pair of C-USA road games. The Blue Demons and Cardinals clash at Freedom Hall on Saturday afternoon before the team plays the Bearcats in Cincinnati on Monday evening.
