CHICAGO – DePaul senior forward Jasmine Penny was named to the BIG EAST Conference Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll it was announced on Monday by the league office. Penny averaged 13.5 in two wins last week for the Blue Demons.
Penny scored 13 points in DePaul’s win against rival Marquette on Jan. 29 and led the Blue Demons with 14 points in their win at Providence on Feb. 1. The Blue Demons (17-5, 8-2 BIG EAST) are in a stretch of six-straight BIG EAST victories and sit in second place in the league standings.
For the week, Penny was 12-of-21 (.571) from the field, while she added 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists per game.
This season, Penny leads DePaul in scoring and ranks sixth in the BIG EAST with 16.1 points per game. The Logansport, Ind., native leads the BIG EAST with her impressive .607 (139-of-229) in field goal percentage which also ranks in the top 10 in Division I.
This is Penny’s fifth Honor Roll accolade this season, while the senior was named the league’s Player of the Week on Dec. 30.
Villanova’s Caroline Coyer was named the conference’s Player of the Week and Georgetown’s Natalie Butler earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Sarah Beal (Providence), Mandy McDivitt (Butler), Arlesia Morse (Marquette) and Sarah Nelson (Creighton) all joined Penny on the Weekly Honor Roll.
DePaul returns to action on Wednesday at Xavier. The Blue Demons and Musketeers tip at 6 p.m. (CT) at the Cintas Center while the game will be carried live on DePaul’s BlueTube.
