Natasha Williams? Double-Double Leads DePaul Past Georgetown
CHICAGO Natasha Williams had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead No. 25/25 DePaul to a 57-51 victory over Georgetown on Wednesday in BIG EAST Conference action at McGrath Arena.
Sam Quigley had 15 points, five assists and four steals as the Blue Demons (18-5, 6-3 BIG EAST) won their fifth straight. Williams also had four blocks, while Felicia Chester added 10 rebounds.
The Blue Demons jumped out to an early 8-2 behind six straight points from Williams. Over the next three minutes Georgetown went on an 8-0 run and took a 10-8 lead on Jalessa Butler’s layup with 14:07 left in the half.
The game was tied two more times before Williams gave the Blue Demons a 20-18 lead with a break-away layup with 6:58 left in the first.
DePaul closed out the half on a 12-5 run and went to the locker room with a 32-23 lead.
In the first eight minutes of the second half, Georgetown used a 13-6 run and pulled within two on Meredith Cox’s free throw with 11:53 left in the game.
Over the next two plus minutes Georgetown used a 10-3 run to tie the game at 41 and Jalessa Butler's short jumper with 3:16 left, gave the Hoyas a 51-50 lead.
Quigley hit a fadeaway 3-pointer with 1:02 remaining to give DePaul a 53-51 lead. Quigley added two free throws and a layup to close the game.
Butler had 17 points and seven rebounds and Shanice Fuller added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Hoyas (13-9, 3-6), who lost for the sixth time in eight games. Georgetown leading scorer Karee Houlette missed the game with an ankle injury.
The Blue Demons return to the court on Sunday, Feb. 8 at Notre Dame. Tip is the Joyce Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CST) and can be seen live on ESPNU with Beth Mowins and Brooke Weisbrod calling the action.
Notes: First five-game conference winning streak this season and first since the Blue Demons closed out the 2005-06 season with a six game winning streak... DePaul’s longest BIG EAST Conference winning streak was extended to seven games when the Blue Demons defeated Rutgers to open their 2006-07 conference campaign... with a 2-for-5 effort from behind the arc, China Threatt has made a 3-pointer in her last six games... she is a combined 15-for-28 from behind the in her last six games...
