CHICAGO – DePaul senior guard Anna Martin is one of 10 NCAA® women's basketball student-athletes who were named finalists for the 2012-13 Senior CLASS Award. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, ® the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
On the court, Martin is averaging 16.2 points per game and ranks 25th in Division I and is second in the BIG EAST Conference with a 2.18 assist-to-turnover ratio. Martin is third on the team with 4.0 assists per game and leads the Blue Demons from the charity stripe (.781). For her career, the Lexington, Kentucky native has scored 1,674 points which ranks seventh all-time in DePaul’s record book.
A marketing major, Martin has been named an Academic All-BIG EAST selection while also earning I-AAA Scholar-Athlete recognition last season. Active in DePaul's community service efforts, Martin has volunteered for Misericordia Candy Days, Vincent de Paul Feed the Homeless Sandwich Drive, St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen, the Sheffield Garden Walk and has also participated in various athletic sponsored food, clothing and shoe drives.
The 10 women’s basketball finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of candidates announced in October. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website or on the Senior CLASS Award Facebook fan page through March 25. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches’ votes to determine the winner.
The women’s Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the NCAA Women’s Final Four® in New Orleans April 7 and 9.
