HARTFORD, Conn. -- The No. 23 DePaul women’s basketball team reached the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Championship and will take on top-seeded Notre Dame on Sunday at 2 p.m. (ET). Sunday’s game can be seen live on ESPNU and ESPN3 with Brooke Weisbrod and Beth Mowins calling the action courtside. The eighth-seeded Blue Demons reached the quarterfinals with their 76-62 win over ninth-seeded USF on Saturday. Anna Martin paced DePaul with 33 points while the junior guard added seven rebounds and six assists. Martin has scored 30-plus points in her last two games while her 33 points against the Bulls tied for the 10th best individual scoring output by a player at the BIG EAST Championship.
The Irish (28-2, 13-1) captured the BIG EAST regular season title and the overall No. 1 seed. The Irish are paced by BIG EAST Player of the Year Skylar Diggins. The junior enters the Championship averaging 17.4 points and 5.8 assists per game. On the season, Notre Dame is averaging 81.0 points per game while holding their opponents to 51.9.
Saturday’s game marks the 37th meeting between the Blue Demons and Irish. Notre Dame has won the last two series meetings, including a 71-67 BIG EAST Semifinals meeting in 2011. ND topped DePaul, 90-70 in South Bend on Feb. 5. The Blue Demons hold a slight 19-17 series advantage while the two teams have split their two BIG EAST Championship meetings. DePaul won a second round clash in 2007, 76-71.
The winner of quarterfinals game will face either West Virginia or Georgetown in the semifinals on Monday at 6 p.m. (ET).
