DePaul Runner-up in Academic National Tournament

CHICAGO -- DePaul made it to the title game of Inside Higher Ed's annual All-Academic Women's Basketball Tournament based on the 64 teams competing in the NCAA tournament.

Based on the NCAA's metrics for academic performance, the Blue Demons defeated Northern Iowa in the first round and Mississippi State in round two.

In the Inside Higher Ed Sweet 16, DePaul eliminated Montana State and followed up by outsmarting Louisville in the regional final.

The Academic Women's Tournament wound up with a Final Four of DePaul vs. Elon and Stanford taking on Creighton. Coach Doug Bruno's program advanced to the championship showdown and finished second in the nation to the Cardinal.

It was a repeat of the 2016 Inside Higher Ed title match with Stanford prevailing. In six years of this academic competition, the Blue Demons have three national championships and three runner-up finishes.

On the basketball court, DePaul (26-7) opposes Northern Iowa (24-8) in the first round of the NCAA tournament at 11 a.m. Friday in Starkville, Miss. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
