Blue Demons Square Off with Liberty in NCAA First Round
Game Notes - Live Audio
CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Fourth-seeded DePaul will have an extra dose of motivation Saturday when it takes on No. 13 Liberty in the first round of the NCAA Tournament's San Antonio Region.
The Blue Demons (25-6) suffered a shocking loss to the Flames (25-5) in the second round of last year's event, preventing DePaul from reaching the regional semifinals for the first time in school history.
A five seed in that loss, the Blue Demons have improved behind the leadership of senior Khara Smith, who leads the team in scoring (17.7) and rebounding (10.9). Allie Quigley adds another scoring threat with 15.5 points per game for DePaul, which is coming off a loss to Connecticut in the semifinals of the Big East Conference tournament.
The Flames (25-5) won 14 straight to claim the Big South Conference crown and reach the NCAAs for the 10th consecutive time. They lost to top-seeded Louisiana State in the Sweet 16 last season.
The winner will face either fifth-seeded North Carolina State or No. 12 Tulsa in the second round Monday.
