CHICAGO – DePaul senior guard Anna Martin was named a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Region nominee on Tuesday. Martin is one of 52 all-region candidates and a selection committee, will choice 10, as members of the WBCA Division I Coaches’ All-America Team.
Martin has started 23 of DePaul’s 32 games and leads the Blue Demons with 15.7 points per game. The senior has reached double-digit scoring totals in 88 career games and has tallied 1,744 career points which ranks sixth on DePaul’s all-time scoring list.
After not missing a game in her previous three seasons, Martin battled through injuries to both knees and played in just eight BIG EAST games. The senior was rewarded for her consistent and fearless play by earning second-team All-BIG EAST honors.
On the season, the Lexington, Ky. native leads the Blue Demons with a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio. She has dished out 78 assists and has five or more assists in seven games. Martin has 32 3-pointers and 34 steals this season.
Martin, who was named a 2011-12 WBCA All-Region nominee, will finish her career ranked in the top 10 in DePaul’s career record book in the categories of – games played (126), field goals (561), field goal attempts (1,452), 3-point field goals (179), 3-point field goal attempts (522) and assists (354).
Off the court, Martin earned the BIG EAST’s Sportsmanship Award and was named the American Eagle Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the year. A member of DePaul’s Captains’ Council, Martin is a finalist for the NCAA Senior CLASS Award.
DePaul begins its 11th consecutive NCAA Tournament in Durham, N.C. on Sunday. The 10th-seeded Blue Demons face Oklahoma State, who is the seventh seed, at Duke’s Cameron Indoor Stadium at 1:30 p.m. (CT) on Mar. 24. DePaul’s first round NCAA Tournament game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
