DePaul's January Aims for Three-Point Title
March 29, 2017

CHICAGO – Blue Demon fans will have one last opportunity to cheer on their favorite collegiate program when Jessica January represents DePaul Thursday in the U.S. Marines Women’s 3-Point Championship at 9 p.m. (CT) on ESPN.

January will be part of the 29th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships also featuring the Be the Match Team Shootout, the Great Clips Men’s 3-point Championship, a showdown between the women’s and men’s titlists and the Denny’s Slam Dunk Championship. It’s a prelude to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four that tips off Saturday in Phoenix.

The State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships will be held at Grand Canyon University, 3300 W. Camelback Rd. in Phoenix. Tickets can be purchased at

The women’s and men’s 3-point champions will face off in the Shoe Carnival Battle of Champions prior to the dunk competition.

January will encounter a talented field in the U.S. Marines Women’s 3-Point Championship led by Associated Press All-Americans Alexis Peterson of Syracuse, Sydney Wiese of Oregon State and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough of Maryland. Other standouts include AP Honorable Mention All-Americans Tori Jankoska of Michigan State and Alexis Jones of Baylor.

Going strictly by the numbers, Walker-Kimbrough would be the early favorite after converting 72 of 160 attempts from distance for 45 percent. Washington’s Heather Corral made 43.6 percent of her shots from beyond the arc while Wiese comes in at 42.6 percent and Jones at 41.1 percent. Sidelined two months this season with a broken finger, January took 85 threes and connected on nearly 32 percent.

The senior guard is the fourth Blue Demon to be invited to the 3-point competition since 2011. Brittany Hrynko competed in 2015, Megan Podkowa in 2016 and Sam Quigley advanced to the semifinals in 2011.
