January Makes Final Four of 3-Point Championship
March 31, 2017

CHICAGO – Jessica January got off to a great start Thursday night in the Marines 3-Point Championship segment of the 29th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix.

The DePaul senior outshot Shatori Walker-Kimbrough of Maryland, Tori Jankoska (Michigan State), Alexis Jones (Baylor) and Heather Corral (Washington) in advancing to the semifinal round where Kansas State’s Kindred Wesemann was lights-out with 26 points out of a possible 30.

Wesemann went on to defeat Oregon State’s Sydney Wiese in the finals and then outshoot Great Clips Men’s 3-Point champion Peter Jok of Iowa in the Shoe Carnival Battle of Champions.

In the Denny’s Slam Dunk Championship, Georgetown’s Rodney Pryor won the title over A.J. Merriweather of East Tennessee State.

January did well amidst the boisterous Grand Canyon University Arena atmosphere where a capacity crowd of 7,000 composed largely of GCU students energized the ESPN telecast.

She became the first Blue Demon since Sam Quigley in 2011 to compete in the 3-Point semifinals. January was also the fourth DePaul women’s basketball player to be selected for the event since 2011, including Brittany Hrynko in 2015 and Megan Podkowa in 2016.
